Here is a revised collection of core cost funding announcements and resources aimed at helping charities continue their work to help others.
Whilst every effort has been made to provide up-to-date information, due to the varying nature and progress of public policies and other related activity, MVA do advise that some of the details below may have changed since the time of its issue and ask that readers please check with each organisation’s website for the latest news.
Grants from the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust
The
D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust awards grants to UK registered charities working in the fields of the advancement of the Trust’s chosen priorities.
The Trust’s priorities are:
The Arts- Access and participation in the arts for those who have least access to them with emphasis on choirs and singing to build community and bring people together
- Support for charities seeking to engage with, and inspire, young people on the fringes of society through music and drama projects to improve their employability and diminish the risk of social exclusion
- Performance development opportunities in the performing arts for those in the early stages of their careers
Medical Welfare- Music and art therapy and non-clinical interventions that use singing, drama and musical techniques to aid recovery from illness and improve quality of life and mental wellbeing
- Support for charities concerned with offering relief to adults and children with medical conditions who find it difficult to get conventional support
- The welfare of those who care for others by offering respite, especially if projects help young carers
The Environment- Social and therapeutic projects involving nature as a tool for mental wellbeing by using gardening or other environmental activities to bring about positive change in the people who take part
- Active involvement in hands-on conservation activities, particularly if it makes a positive change in the lives of less fortunate young people to improve their skills, build their confidence and encourages their employment
- Rural crafts and skills in heritage conservation, emphasising on increasingly rare skills that would otherwise be lost
Grants are normally over a one-year period, and the
Trustees will consider applications for core costs or projects with preference given to small-scale, locally based initiatives.
At the time of writing, whilst The Trust point out the scheme is a Continuous Rolling Programme – and applications will be accepted at any time – their Trustees meet three times a year to review applications

information and
how to apply can be found at the Trust’s
website.
The Foyle Foundation (Small Grants)
The
Foyle Foundation’s Small Grants Scheme awards one-year grants to smaller charities in the UK working at a grassroots and local community level, in any field, across a wide range of activities.
The Foundation say applications are welcome from charities that have an annual turnover of less than £150,000 and their funding
can be used to cover core costs, projects, essential equipment or building projects.
The Foundation also say they are especially interested in supporting local charities that are active in their communities by delivering services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged or the general community.
At the time of writing, there was no recognised deadline, suggesting this is a Continuous Rolling Programme and applications can be accepted at any time.

Foyle Foundation website.
The Mount Fund from The Mrs Smith & Mount Trust
The
Mrs Smith & Mount Trust makes grants to UK registered charities whose beneficiaries are in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent, Surrey and London.
The aim of the Trust is to assist disadvantaged people towards greater independence or a better quality of life.
Their current priorities are:
Mental Health - The Trustees support registered charities delivering therapeutic family support programmes and children’s mental health needs
Homelessness - The Trustees support registered charities delivering advice, therapy and counselling services to individuals and families who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.
Community Youth Services - The Trustees support registered charities delivering advice, therapy and counselling services to children and young people aged 24 and under.
The service should be free to users and aimed primarily at children or young people experiencing inequalities and social exclusion, who may have experience of trauma and disadvantage.
It could also be extended to children or young people affected by serious youth violence as well as associated experience of socioeconomic disadvantage, poverty or discrimination.
Refugee and Asylum Seekers - The Trustees support registered charities delivering advice, therapy and counselling services to individuals and families who are refugees and asylum seekers.
The Trust say grants are given for projects;
general running costs/core funding; salaries; advice services; furnishings/equipment; or organisational development.
At the time of writing, whilst The Trust point out their scheme is a Continuous Rolling Programme – so applications can be made at any time - their next Trustee meeting to award funds will be in November 2024 and ask that interested parties visit their website for exact dates.
