Unrestricted Funding News Round-up, July 2024

Here is a revised collection of unrestricted funding announcements and resources aimed at helping charities continue their work to help others.

Whilst every effort has been made to provide up-to-date information, due to the varying nature and progress of public policies and other related activity, MVA do advise that some of the details below may have changed since the time of its issue and ask that readers please check with each organisation’s website for the latest news.

Funding from the Postcode Society Lottery
The Postcode Society Lottery awards unrestricted grants to organisations in the South of England that meets one of the Lottery’s funding themes:
  • Enabling participation in physical activity
  • Enabling participation in the arts
  • Preventing or reducing the impact of poverty
  • Supporting marginalised groups and tackling inequality
  • Improving biodiversity and responding to the climate emergency
  • Improving green spaces and increasing access to the outdoors
  • Providing support to improve mental health
Priority will be given to charities and good causes that can meet some or all of the following measures:
  • Funding organisations with an annual income of £250,000 or less
  • Funding for communities that rank as being within the top 15% on the English Indices of Deprivation
  • Funding for groups that are set up to support people from the following minority/marginalised groups:
    • Communities experiencing racial inequity
    • Disabled people
    • LGBT+ people
The funding organisers state that Constituted voluntary/community groups (including CASCs), Excepted and exempted charities, Companies limited by guarantee with an asset lock and Parochial Church Councils can apply for their standard amount.

However, CICs, Community Benefit Society and Registered charities can apply for considerably more and the organisers ask interested parties should contact them or visit their website for more details.

Relaunching their official call for applications in late August, the deadline for applications is midday on 2nd September 2024, with further dates to be announced in later seasons.

Edgar E Lawley Foundation
The Edgar E Lawley Foundation awards unrestricted grants to small charities and not-for-profit organisations in the UK.

The Foundation are especially interested in hearing from charitable purposes that have a particular focus on:
  • Medicine
  • Elderly persons
  • Education with reference to the arts, commerce and industry
Relaunching their programme in early August, the deadline for applications is Thursday 31st October 2024, with further dates to be announced.

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation awards unrestricted grants for up to three years to charitable organisations whose work aligns with the Foundation’s aims.

These aims are:
  • Our Natural World – Ensuring the natural world is restored and protected and that people benefit from that recovery.
  • A Fairer Future - Contributing to a just and anti-racist society, where those who need it the most have their rights protected, the opportunity to speak and be heard, and the freedom to express their creativity.
  • Creative, Confident Communities – Strengthening the bonds in communities, helping local people to build vibrant, confident places where they can fulfil their creative, human, and economic potential.
The Foundation welcomes applications as part of a partnership or collaboration, as well as work which fits more than one of the Foundation’s aims.

They also say the funding can be used towards core and project costs, including staff costs and overheads.

The Foundation also advise for capital funding (building work and equipment), interested parties consider the Foundation’s Social Investment programme.

At the time of writing this is a Continuous Rolling Programme and applications can be accepted at any time.
