A charity on the Isle of Sheppey is offering people free food and drinks, company, and the opportunity to stay warm this winter.
The
Winter Warm Welcome Sessions at The
Salvation Army Hall in Sheerness returns for a successive third year to help those struggling with the cost of living and loneliness.
Held
every Wednesday between 9.30am and 2.00pm, staff and volunteers are on hand to provide warm beverages, soup, and advice on benefits.
The Salvation Army Major of Sheerness began the service in 2022 when fuel bills were rising, saying it was so they could make sure that local residents who were struggling have the best opportunity to be cared for.”
Over 40 people from the Isle of Sheppey drop in each week, and the sessions also act as a community hub to combat feelings of isolation and loneliness.
These sessions are scheduled to run every week until the end of March 2025, with Winter Warm Welcome sessions also being held on Sundays between 12pm and 2pm at
Leysdown Village Hall.
The sessions form part of a network of national venues from the Warm Welcome Campaign, each one aiming to bring connection, friendship, and human warmth, helping people feel less isolated and lonely and boosting people's wellbeing overall.
